Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Oct 29: The angry people from Malipath and adjoining areas of Kishtwar town today held a strong protest against the PHE Hydraulic Division Kishtwar for their failure to provide water to nearly 3000 souls living in Ward No 13 & Ward No 4 of Kishtwar Municipality since last over two weeks.
The Mobile Medical Unit Team which was on its way to tackle some emergency also stuck for nearly one hour due to the road blockade.
As per the details available with Early Times, the angry protestors blocked the Kishtwar-Jammu highway near Malipath for hours together. They alleged that the water supply for the area has been diverted towards the newly constructed locality also having the house of senior officer in District Administration.
PHE department has allegedly spent Crores of rupees on various water supply schemes for providing drinking water to the people including Rs. 55 Crore Naigard Water supply schemes on which Crores of rupees has been spent till date amid reports of corruption in the scheme.
Surprisingly the documents available with Early Times, the PHE Hydraulic Division has spent around Rs. 3.10 crore on renovation of Kishtwar HRT Water lift scheme in last three years while the new scheme cost around Rs. 2.75 Crores. PHE department in 2010-11 purchased Rs. 10-12 crore pipes for providing water supply to Kishtwar town and are yet to be utilised for the same and are lying unattended
Later the newly elected Ward Member Raiz Ahmed Zarger (Retired ADDC Kishtwar) intervened and get the road blockade cleared.
Speaking to Early Times, Rashid Lone said that they are being forced by the PHE officials to choose the agitating path. He said that the department has provided the illegal water connections out of gravity line which is the major cause of water crisis. He said that the water tanker supply in Kishtwar town and it's peripheral areas also yield no result added that the water from water tankers are being sold to private parties. He said that instead of filling the water tankers from HRT point which is around 12 KM from Kishtwar, the water tankers are being filled near NHPC colony as a result of which the water supply to Kishtwar town get effected due to filling of around 2.50 liters of water by these water tankers and termed it as major scam since the tankers withdraw fuel for fatching water from far off distance from Kishtwar town whole in actual, they fill the same from stone throw distance from Kishtwar filter plant. He said that in case the PHE officials fail to address the issue, they will again block the Kishtwar-Jammu National Highway.
