SRINAGAR, Oct 29: The State Government is contemplating to trifurcate the Health and Medical Education into three directorates as a measure to "improvise" the infrastructure at basic level.
As per the sources, the new medical policy has suggested for the creation of the three directorates including directorate for primary care and public health, medical services and medical education.
Sources said that directorate of the primary care and public health would run the primary health centres throughout the state to improvise its functioning.
"The primary health centers which are controlled by the directorate of health services will be completely administrated and looked upon by the distinctive directorate. It will keep a check on every facility besides the availability of human resources at basic level," a senior official of the Health Department, said.
Similarly, the official said the new policy has focused on the creation of the directorate of the medical services to run hospital at sub-district and district level.
"As such the distinctive directorates will focus on the institutes coming in its jurisdiction. The sub-district and district hospitals, which cater to huge areas will get equal attention by a separate directorate," the official said.
Directorate of medical services as per the sources will run the medical colleges and the premiere government run health institutes in the state.
Sources said that the state government is in a process for implementing the new health policy, which will focus on upgradation of the healthcare at primary as well as at the tertiary level.
The policy, which has been completed, envisages to counter the misuse of antibiotics besides use of generic drugs by the doctors.
The medicos here in the state have been claiming that the concerned department couldn't conduct refreshment academic course for the doctors to keep them abreast with latest technologies.
"Due to the in efficient health policy there are no academic refreshment courses like continuing medical education (CME), short training courses, conferences, etc, which will help in keeping the doctors abreast and up-to-date with the latest technologies and will ultimately help in maintaining competence," a medico said.
