Cong Councilors joining BJP; setback to party, Lal Singh group
10/29/2018 10:29:39 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 29: With four Congress members from Kathua Municipal Council joining BJP today, the BJP has marginalized the Lal Singh group whose brother with two seats has been left with no option but to remain in opposition.
Sources said the family of Naresh Sharma has a lot of influence in Kathua and the Ward no 9 represented by him has remained with the family continuously since 1955.
Sources said Sharma took the decision to revolt against his party after the State leadership failed to give any recognition to him after managing four seats for party in Kathua and giving a tough fight to BJP in the district.
Sharma a former Youth Congress chief has campaigned alone in district without any backing from party and he succeeded in not only winning four seats but also lost four others with a thin margin of 9 to 50 votes. Instead of encouraging him and his team the Congress leadership did not bother to acknowledge his accomplishments.
Taking serious note of party leadership's cold response, Sharma joined BJP and is assured to get support of two more independents to get control over Kathua Municipal Committee (KMC).
This has been seen as a great setback to both Congress party as well as Lal Singh's brother who has failed to negotiate with BJP.
