10/29/2018 10:29:56 PM
Early Times Report

Kishtwar, Oct 29: In a major setback to National Conference in Thathri Municipal Committee, three of the Independent candidates backed by it who won recently declared municipality elections from 7 wards of Thathri MC joined BJP on Monday.
After hectic parlays at various levels, all the three ward members Viz Mansoor (Ward No. 3), Shaheena Begum (Ward No. 1) and Dilshada Begum (Ward. No. 4) who won the elections with the backing of NC leader Payare Lal Sharma, merged in the BJP and unanimously agreed to appoint Mansoor as president Thathri municipality. BJP has already one member, Gurukesh Gupta, who won the election from Ward. No. 6 on BJP symbol, while Congress has three members, Asgar Hussain (Ward No. 2), Nek Alam (Ward No. 5) and Munawar Din (Ward No. 7)
As soon as the final merger was announced, the BJP workers started celebrating the victory as party got full mandate in seven-member Thathri MC.
Reacting to the development, the Congress MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori said that Congress party from day one believed that NC leader Payare Lal Sharma was RSS men in the NC. Saroori added that he had warned the NC leadership of Kishtwar about his activities. He said that it was due his collaboration with RSS and BJP, the Congress had shown him the door.
Saroori said NC provincial President Davinder Singh Rana owed explanation over the issue wherein his party leader was seen openly collaborating with BJP and RSS in Thathri.
It is pertinent to mention that Early Times in its 22-10-2018 edition had reported about the possible alliance of NC-backed Independent candidates with BJP.
In Thathri elections, Congress win the lion's share of 329 votes out of 626 votes polled while NC-backed candidates managed to bag 196 votes and BJP got 103 votes.
As soon as the result of all the seven wards of Thathri Municipality were declared, communication channels opened up which finally landed the NC leader Payare Lal Sharma in BJP camp seeking support for the post of President Municipality for his trusted aide Mansoor Ahmed, which was successfully managed by him in the form of letter of support from the BJP.
