Indian Army targets Pakistan HQ along LoC in retaliation to shelling
10/29/2018 9:40:38 PM
Early Times Report
Poonch, Oct 29: Jammu Division: Indian Army on Monday retaliated to mortar shelling by Pakistan in Jammu & Kashmir's Poonch and Jhallas on October 23. The Indian Army targeted a Pakistan Army's administrative headquarters along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch.
In an unprovoked attack on October 23, Pakistan Army hit Indian Army's brigade headquarters with a 105/106 mm shells setting the store shelter on fire in the border Poonch district inside the Jammu division. The ceasefire violation by Pakistan began around 10.35 am with Pakistan hitting the Indian side with RPG and small arms. One of the shells landed in a store shelter setting fire to it.
"Deprivation and penury of locals of PoK suits the Pakistan army that while ensconced in the safety of their posts, use these unwitting and brainwashed youths as cannon fodder for actions along the LoC, a cowardly and unprofessional modus operandi for any self respecting army," the officials said.
"On October 23, at approximately 10:35 am during ceasefire violation, Pakistan troops fired RPG and small arms. One round landed on a barrel-type store shelter in Poonch, causing it to catch fire. Initial analysis indicates a calibre of 105/106 mm RCL. Further details are being ascertained," said Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand, defence spokesman at Jammu.
The army was taken by surprise by the shelling and initially thought the HQ was under attack. Pakistan Army restored shelling on forward Indian positions in the Krishna Ghati (KG) later in the evening. Pakistan used long-range weapons to inflict maximum damage as per Indian Army officials.
Pakistan's shelling came just two days after an Indian Army patrol team was ambushed by a group of heavily armed Pakistani soldiers who intruded near the Line of Control (LoC) in Sundarbani sector of Jammu & Kashmir's Rajouri district on Sunday. Three Indian soldiers were killed and one seriously injured in the attack that was carried out at 1.45 pm yesterday.
The attack was carried out by Pakistan's Border Action Team (BAT). As per reports, Pakistani intruders carried out the attack 50 metres inside the Indian Territory and ambushed the border patrol unit. Two Pakistani intruders were killed in retaliatory fire by Indian forces.
