Early Times Report
Kathua, Oct 30:- Farmers hailing from Border area Hiranagar sector today staged massive protest demonstration at tehsil Marheen under the leadership of Ashok Kumar who appealed Governor Jammu and Kashmir to scrap Reliance Insurance Policy for crops like the worthy scarped Health Insurance Policy of J&K employees. The farmers expressed dissatisfaction about the process & working of Crop insurance process of Reliance Insurance Company as no compensation or survey of damaged crops conducted since long but insurance company deducts money half yearly from farmers' account.
Ashok Kumar, a farmer and member Kissan Border Forum, lambasted on KCC card facility and Crop insurance scheme which are allegedly not up to the mark. He said, "Basmati crops have been damaged during recent storm and incessant rains but despite of conducting survey for damaged crops and recommending compensation, Insurance Company deducted half yearly premium of Rs 3000/- per farmer from their accounts."
Karan Kumar and Tilak Raj informed that Insurance Company insured their crop on the premium of Rs 6000/- per year but nobody got compensation ever for damaged crop. They appealed honorable Governor to scrap Reliance Insurance Policy for crops which is not beneficial for farmers. They demanded that the Insurance Company should conduct survey and pay compensation for damaged crops. The protesters also sought relief from KCC loans. They added that it became difficult for farmers to repay loans as well as Insurance premium.
