Ahead of joining NC, former student leader plays 'Muslim card'
10/30/2018 11:03:37 PM

Early Times Report
jammu, Oct 30: Ahead of her possible entry into the National Conference, a former leader of the JNU has started playing her "Muslim card."
The student leader who would often claim to be "liberal" and "open minded" has suddenly started projecting herself as a Muslim.
The former JNU leader recently wrote a post in the twitter to say that she was from a particular community. "I'm a Muslim. Accept me as I am," she posted on her handle.
Interestingly the tweet was retweeted by a senior NC leader who has long been lobbying for her entry into the party folds.
Sources said the former JNU has been advised by her close aides that "in order to be acceptable in the Kashmir politics she must play the religious card."
Sources said for the past few months the woman leader has been working for the NC as their proxy. "Apart from campaign in Ladakh region she was also sent to some remote areas like Gurez by the party to strengthen its base there," said a senior politician on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah, and his son and NC vice-president Omar Abdullah have been lobbying hard the woman leader joins the party at an earliest.
"For the last few months our party has made huge investment on her. Form organizing talks shows in five start hotels in her honor to book reading sessions, the party has been by her side and we look that she reciprocates according very soon," the party leaders said.
Sources said "very close" friend of Abdullahs has been lobbying that this former student leader joins the NC and helps the leadership in a revamp.
While some of the leaders are not happy with the prospective entry of this particular person in the NC, the Abdullahs look ahead to welcome her.
"One of our leaders recently left the party only over her prospective entry but the leadership had made a decision and this is why she has been asked to slowly make people change their perception about her in accordance with the needs of the Kashmir vote bank," said one NC leader.
Despite repeated attempts the NC leader couldn't be contacted for comments.
