Our Maharaja is no more
On khajuria10/30/2018 10:57:44 PM

This was the first news which came to us in 24th April,1961 as a student leader was not believing what I heard and it took me back to the times when lot of turmoil happened and resulted into self exile by our revered Maharaja Hari Singh. It all started on the fateful day when on one side Pakistan backed forces attacked the borders and tried to breach the sovereignty which finally resulted into merging of riyasat e Jammu and Kashmir with India.
That day instrument of accession was signed and maharaja left the state which he always loved more than his life.
Now coming back to 1962,As soon we heard the news we were not able to control our emotions and requested the state Government to lower the flag which on denial from them we as students have taken the task in our hands and lower the same on Jammu sectt and got imprisoned ...Now when I think of the guts shown by me as young student leader along with my closest friend Prof BHIM singh ,Jagdish singh,Karan singh,Brijraj singh,Baldev singh and others it really look as part of some story.
Maharaja Hari Singh ji spent his time and era in the most pure and pristine way.He believed in the upliftment of masses and stressed on education for one and all.
His had no bias toward Kashmir and Leh and nurtured them as he had groomed and developed Jammu.
We are thankful to Maharaja for his vision which resulted into us merging into India which is by all means a better decision keeping in consideration the current situation of Pakistan who is not only morally, ethically but economically on the cusp of sinking.
And what happened between beginning of June (before Independence) till the time of signing of instrument accession was a story of tough decisions.
Maharaja for the benefit of its subject was still indecisive,it was not greed or lust for power but for the benefits of each one of the subject. He has 2 options in mind either to remain independent or merge with India.
After numerous meetings with lord Mountbatten,he was still making up his mind suddenly without invitation, the shocking news came of Tribal raids sponsored by Pakistan (pak sponsored terrorism is not new).. from the muzaffarabad side.
Maharaja deputed his trusted and braveheart Brig rajinder Singh to safeguard the frontiers which he did with great valour and made the supreme sacrifice of his life and it was maharaja's vision and training of the state armed forces though small in number but well trained in strategy and tactics and stopped the raiders in entering the baramulla for sometime.
Meanwhile,Maharaja contacted the Jawaharlal nehru through his emissary menon for helping state at this time of exigency but the condition was signing of accession document.
Finally again for the benefit of his subject maharaja signed the agreement and Indian forces landed and fought with raiders and ousted them out of Kashmir.
No doubt Indian army and airforce has shown their valour in Kashmir and showing time and again for defending this nation,my salute and compliments to them.
There are lot many elements in instrument of accession which with the passage of time and unnecessary and unwanted interventions of few of the third party acting as arbitrator has lost its relevance.
Jk is now part of the vast, developed and economically stable our nation India.
