Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 4: A few inches of snow in Kashmir and parts of Jammu once again exposed the preparedness of the administration for the winters.
Ghulam Mohammad, a 70-year-old businessman from old city Srinagar said that people used to consider the snowfall as a blessing.
"But the government has turned it into a curse for the people. People face immense inconveniences due to insensitiveness of the state administration," he said.
He said that few inches of snow plunged entire Kashmir into darkness.
"Just few inches of snow has exposed the claims of the government how much state was prepared to deal the situation," he said.
Imtiaz Ahmad, a resident of Pampore said that government has failed to restore the power supply and communication of the Valley.
He claimed people face immense inconveniences due to insensitiveness of the state administration.
"People are not able to reach hospitals due to blockade of roads. There is no accountability and whole nation is helplessness due to insensitiveness of the government," he said.
He said families of the tourists staying in the Valley were worried over their safety due to snapping of the communication services in Kashmir.
"Snow clearance machines were also plied in selective areas. In some areas, snow clearance was done partially," Ghulam Mohammad, a resident of old Baramulla said.
"Don't talk about the common men even MLAs movement is not possible in villages due to non-clearance of snow on the roads," he said.
He said the people are not able to reach to hospitals even during emergency and can't go to the marketplaces to purchase essentials. "The electric wires have not been repaired yet," he said.
Early Times received complaints from various areas where the electricity supply was not restored by the Sunday evening.
Officials said the electricity supply remained disturbed in majority areas of the Valley due to damage to electric poles and lines caused due to snowfall.
"Around 60-percent electricity was disrupted in the Valley due to snowfall. The power supply remained disrupted as scores of electricity polls have fallen down," said an official of Power Development Department (PDD).
He said the efforts to restore the electricity supply was underway. "We hope the electricity supply will be restored by Monday evening in majority of areas, where electricity supply was snapped," he said.
He, however, said the supplies to the essential services were instantly restored.
The official said the presence of plants close to the weak transmission lines was the main cause for disruption of power supply.
"The pruning of trees near the fragile transmission lines has not been done since long, leading to disruption of electricity during snowfall or windstorm in the Valley," he added.
