Of 90 lectures, only 45 completed this session

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 4: The semester system of examination implemented by University of Jammu across the colleges has created a peculiar situation for the faculty members, who have not been getting time to complete the syllabus.
Against prescribed 90 lectures to complete the syllabus, only half of lectures have been taken by the faculty members and the examination are round the corner.
Students informed Early Times that the worst sufferers were the students of Semester 5th, whose classes begun in the last in the colleges but according to the date-sheet, their examination are scheduled to start first.
"Our classes had begun in the last days of August month and class work was actually begun in the first week of September as all students didn't attend classes in the beginning for few days", a student said, adding that the class work was smoothly begun only in the month of September and few days of October. In the October month, on 16,17 and 18 the working was off due to black days and on 19th College was sealed for election of votes counting. "On 20th there was counting of election of municipalities and on 21st it was Sunday", another student said, adding that moreover there were internal assessment tests, which also took a week. The faculty members informed that as prescribed in the syllabus, a faculty member has to complete the syllabus in 90 lectures but this year for the semester 5th students, even 40-45 classes have been taken by them.
"How a teacher can complete the syllabus of 90 days in 40-45 days but as per situations, the teachers are bound to complete the syllabus and he/she has to manage by either skipping some topics or by covering many topics in one day", the faculty members said, adding that the University of Jammu administration had implemented the semester system without consulting the matter with the faculty members.
It appears that without application of mind such a faulty system has been adopted, which ultimately ruins the career of students.
