Rahul Gandhi's plan to form grand alliance in J&K not feasible
11/21/2018 9:00:33 PM
The Congress President, Rahul Gandhi, plans to form the grand alliance in several states to defeat the BJP in the Lok Sabha election being held next year. Already Rahul Gandhi has succeeded in forging grand alliance in some states where the Assembly elections are round the corner. But the possibilities of this grand alliance may be remote as far as Jammu and Kashmir state is concerned. Already during the recent ULB and Panchayat elections premier political parties, the National Conference and the PDP decided to boycott their participation in the elections. And the Congress contestred the elections on its own. And there were chances for the alliance between the Congress and the National Conference. But these chances have become remote with Chief of the state unit of the Congress, G.A. Mir, berating the PDP and the NC for boycotting the ULB and Panchayat elections. Though while announcing the boycott of the ULB and Panchayat elections the PDP and the NC leadership had stated that out of protest against fiddling with Article 35-A they decide to boycott the poll.
But Mir has blamed the two premier and Kashmir centric parties for boycotting the elections to the Urban Local Bodies and the Panchayats because they were scared of facing the wrath of people of the state. This statement could be an act of inciting PDP and the NC to sever links with the Congress. Hence the Congress cannot think of any grand alliance in Jammu and Kashmir. Besides this the grand alliance could have been meaningful had the PDP and the NC plan to join hands along with the Congress. Since the PDP and the NC are old political foes the question of forging an alliance between the two may not be possible. And the PDP and the Congress could have formed an alliance like the NC and the Congress. But since the PDP and NC cannot pull the cart together hence their chances of grand alliance are dim.
Well the NC-Congress alliance can prove a threat to the PDP and the BJP. Despite the fact that the BJP is Jammu centric but its vote bank has shrunk because of the fallabilities of the BJP when it shared power with the PDP. The BJP had failed to fulfill any of its commitment made to the people. Even its promise of granting citizenship rights to the West Pakistan refugees could not be fulfilled. And because of its association with the BJP the PDP has also witnessed erosion in its vote bank in the Kashmir valley. Hence the NC-Congress alliance could be a winning horse. And there is no need for forging a grand alliance in Jammu and Kashmir because of the fact that the BJP is not a force to reckon with. And if the NC-Congress form an alliance it can defeat the BJP even in the Jammu region.
