PDP all set to suffer more 'losses' in near future

SRINAGAR, Nov 21: Statement of senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Muzaffar Hussan Beigh that he is willing to join third front once it emerges on the political horizon of Jammu & Kashmir has led to a storm as the efforts for government formation has increased over the past 24 hours or so.
Beigh had in a press conference on Tuesday said that Peoples Conference (PC) Chairman Sajad Gani Lone should be encouraged to form the third front in the state. Beigh who is the Lok Sabha member from North Kashmir said that he is seriously thinking of quitting the PDP.
Giving sleepless nights to the party leadership the senior leader of PDP said that he is contemplating to joining the PC adding the same would be no less than a home coming for him. He had in fact went a step ahead and said that Sajad Lone is just like a son to him.
Sources said that Beigh's statement has created ripples among the PDP leaders and in order to keep the flock together the party sent feelers to Congress and NC for forming the next government in the state. If this is not possible then one cannot rule further divisions in PDP.
"PDP is already embattling crisis within the party and some of the party legislators have already raised banner of revolt against the party leadership. Since Beigh has some loyalists in the party one cannot rule out further trouble for the party leadership. Only way to bring these people back into party is to form the new government in the state," said sources.
It would be in place to mention here that Beigh along with Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Ghulam Hassan Mir and Tariq Hameed Karra were instrumental in forming the PDP. It was only after the formation of the party that Mehbooba Mufti joined the party and started calling the shots at the cost of senior party leaders.
"Cohesion is lacking in the PDP at this moment of time and one cannot rule further division in the party. Party legislators like Imran Raza Ansari, Abid Hussain Ansari and others like Yasir Reshi have already voiced their concern and virtually revolted against the party leadership. Same can be said about former finance minister and party legislator from Rajpora, Haseeb Drabu," said sources.
Sources said that demise of Mufti Sayeed coupled with the resignation of Karra along with the willingness of Beigh to leave the party has pushed the PDP leadership to the wall. They said that it would be difficult for the party to regain its ground especially in South Kashmir considered to be home turf of the party.
