South Kashmir possing new challenges for security forces

South Kashmir areas, including Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam districts, have pos new challenge for the security forces who keep on hunting for the militants staying in their hideouts. Even day two to six militants are killed in encounters with the Armed militants and in return some of the security personnel do are eliminated. This is a tussle between militants and the security forces. Six militants were killed in a gunfight in south Kashmir's Anantnag district recently. The gunfight raged in Setkipora Bijbehara when security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area after an input about the militants' presence around midnight. As the CASO was under way the militants hiding inside the area fired indiscriminately at the forces triggering a gunfight. In the gunfight six militants were killed. One of the militants was identified as Azad Malik of the LeT. He was an accused in the Shujaat Bukhari killing case. All other five slain militants are locals and have been identified as Unais Shafi, Shahid Bashir, Basit Istiyaq, Aqib Najar and Firdous Najar. Later six more militants were killed along with an Army personnel resulting in death of 12 militants in three days
What is amazing in the incident that while one LeT man was killed and other five, slain militants were local boys. This indicates that Let has been quite successful in recruiting local boys in its outfit. The others active in the area and have been in a position to recruit boys are Al Badar, Hizbul Mujahideen and Jaish-e-Mohammad. This means that these militant outfits operating in the Kashmir valley do not require fresh man power from across the LoC. Since the Indian troops have upgraded anti-infiltration grid on the LoC it has become difficult for the Army in Pakistan to push groups of militants into Kashmir. Though over 160 militants were said to be lodged on the launching pads but they find no opportunity for crossing into Kashmir. Yes, Pakistan Army plan to push small groups of militants, two to five, into Kashmir under their plan of resorting to ceasefire violations.
Senior Army functionaries had appealed to the parents of boys, who have joined militancy, to tell them to return and surrender and seek rehabilitation. But their parents refused to dictate terms with their wards fearing either their sons will get killed or they (parents) could face a bitter problem. And since several boys were abducted from Shopian area an d those who have refused to join militancy were killed and their bodies were thrown in the villages is indicative of their strategies. This way militants parents were hesitant to twll their boys to give up militancy and surrender before the security forces to seek rehabilitation. It is presumed that since the time PDP forged an alliance with the BJP to form a coalition Government in 2014 South Kashmir has become more volatile than the north Kashmir which is close to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and is prone to infiltration of militants. It is certain that after infiltration these militants travel to south Kashmir and open the front against the security forces.
