Constitution Day passes by into oblivion
Political parties stay blissfully ignorant
11/26/2018 11:12:14 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 26: As the Constitution day across the country was celebrated on Monday, November 26, the mainstream political parties in Jammu and Kashmir forgot the important day conveniently.
There wasn't a single statement issued by any political party about the importance of the day when constitution of the country was adopted, neither a single seminar was conducted to commemorate such a great day.
"How could the political parties who swear by the Constitution don't deem it necessary to respect it. It is ironic that not even a single mainstream party commemorated the Constitution day," said a netizen based in Jammu.
The Government of India declared 26 November as Constitution Day on 19 November 2015 by a gazette notification. The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi made the declaration on 11 October 2015 while laying the foundation stone of the B. R. Ambedkar memorial in Mumbai. The year of 2015 was the 125th birth anniversary of Ambedkar, who had chaired the drafting committee of the Constituent Assembly and played a pivotal role in the drafting of the constitution
"The day was only observed at the district level that too by Jammu and Kargil districts only. All the other districts didn't deem it necessary to commemorate it. And therefore it is now official that the day has no takers in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. But the main onus lies on the mainstream political parties who have so brazenly tried to undermine the day. The Governor must act against such an action," said another netizen.
