Woman killed, 22 injured as vehicle falls into gorge

Rajouri, Nov 26: 21 persons including a one year old child were injured and elderly woman was killed when a tempo traveller in which they were travelling in skidded off the road on Rajouri-Poonch road under the jurisdiction of Thanamandi police station.
Among 21 injured 15 are women and girls and a one year child and all had narrow escape as the vehicle was stopped by the trees and bushes.
"Had there were no trees, the vehicle would have fallen in the deep gorge resulting in more fatalities" said an eyewitness. Police said that the mishap took place at about 4 pm near Magi Mor on Rajouri-Bafliaz-Mughal raod.
The tempo traveller bearing registration No.JK12 was on way to Thanamandi side when the driver lost control on the vehicle on a sharp curve and it skidded off the road and fell in the gorge.
According to preliminary report all the injured including woman, children, and infants were close relatives of few families and are resident of Mangota and Danna villages of Thanamandi tehsil.
Reports said all had gone to attend marriage celebrations at Surankot in Poonch district and were on way back to home when the mishap took place.
All the injured first rescued to Community Health Centre (CHC) at Thanamandi and after first aid 17 among them were shifted to district hospital for specialized treatment" said Iftikar Ahmed Choudhry , SDPO.
Thanamandi based Rashtriya Rifle (RR) unit's medical team also rushed to the spot and extended their help in providing necessary/ immediate medical help to the injured at CHC,Thanamandi.
The deceased has been identified as 55 years old Nazir begam w/o Hassan Mohd r/o Danna.
The injured have been identifies as Shanaz Akhter , Hamad HussainSafia Kousar wife son and daughter of Talib Hussain, Saleema Kousar, Mohd Shafiq sibling of Kabir Hussain, Rashid Begam , Shammim Akhter wife and daughter of Alam Din, Zahid Parveen, Tasveer Begam , daughter and wife of Mohd Bashir, Kaleem Begam , Ahmed Raza wife and son of Mohd Shakeel, Mohd Salum S/o Mohd Sarvar, Sufara D/o Haji Farooq, Rubia Akhter D/o Mohd Munshi, Safeena Kousar, Azeem wife and daughter of Jameel Ahmed, Rakshana Kousar D/o Ghulam Hussain, Nasreen Kousar D/o Farooq Ahmed, Shakeela Begam W/o Mohd Hussain one year old son of Jameel Ahmed and driver Talib Hussain.
