Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 2: "Dal Lake-Reclaiming Lost Glory" by Dr. Anil Kumar, Associate Director Research, ACRA, Dhiansar SKUAST- Jammu was released at International Conference of Indian Weed Society, Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur in presence of Mildred Xess, G M (NABARD) MP, Dr. P.K. Singh, Director ICAR, DWR and Dr. Jonathan Gressel Wis, Israel. The other dignatories present on the occasion included Dr. G.R. Rao, Director, TFRI, Dr. V. Pratap Singh President, ISWS and Dr. Sushil Kumar Secretary, ISWS.
In the words of Dr. Kumar "every time while passing through the lake side and seeing tons and tons of algae and other pollutants eating into vitals of this water body , my heart ached". Though nothing could be done individually to ameliorate its status yet he could not stop himself from at least showcasing this ever declining stature of this lake to the outside world. Hence began his frequent to Srinagar to identify the reasons for decay in Dal with active participation and coordination from his friends and colleagues from SKUAST-Kashmir. During the course of research of various aspects of Dal, came to fore the fact that its upkeep and maintenance has boiled down to loot and plunder by the same every people who were assigned the responsibility for its well being. The continuous decline trail that started in early 90's finally culminated in the formation of mesh pool called Dal Lake these days. As a consequence during last 3 decades, this Crown Beauty of Kashmir not only lost its glory but is dying a slow death day by day.
