Srinagar freezes at minus 2.3, weather to remain dry till Dec 7

Srinagar, Dec 2: The Jammu and Kashmir meteorological department on Sunday has predicted weather to remain dry till December 7.
An official from the meteorological department said that weather is likely to remain dry till December 7. "The dry weather would continue for next one week as per the current prediction," he said.
Night temperatures fell below the freezing point through the valley. The Srinagar city has recorded minus 2.4 degree Celsius temperature.
Qazigund has recorded minus 1.8 degree Celsius, Tourist destination Pahalgam has recorded minus 3.3, degree Celsius and ski resort Gulmarg has recorded minus 3.3, respectively.
The Kokernag area of district Islamabad has recorded minus 0.6 and Kupwara has recorded minus 1.4 degree Celsius, respectively.
The Jammu city has recorded 9.6, degree Celsius; Banihal has recorded minus 1.1, Batote 4.1, Katra 9.2 and Doda 2.1 degree Celsius.
Leh was the coldest town in Jammu and Kashmir at minus 9.3, Kargil recorded minus 9 as the night's lowest temperature.
The night temperature at Kargil dipped and settled at minus 9 degree, against minus 8.5 degree recorded on Saturday. Against minus 9.4 degree recorded on Saturday in Leh, the night temperature surged and settled at minus 9.3 degree.
World famous health resort of Pahalgam was the coldest place in the valley. Against minus 5 degree recorded on Saturday, the night temperature in the health resort was minus 5.1 degree, which is about 2 degree below normal.
After witnessing the coldest night of the season so far at minus 2.4 degree in Srinagar, people woke up to a chilly Sunday morning. Taps were frozen at many places in the summer capital, where people, mostly auto-drivers and shopkeepers, could be seen burning wood to keep themselves warm.
The night temperature in Srinagar was over a degree below normal. However, as the day progressed, sun came out though chill continued due to ice cold winds.
There was no respite from chilly weather conditions in world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, where the mercury dipped and settled at minus 3.4 degree against minus 3.3 degree recorded on Saturday.
