12/6/2018 10:01:54 PM
Early Times Report
Rajouri Dec 6: Pakistani forces again violated the ceasefire on the LoC in Sunderbani sector, killing a BSF soldier and injuring another.
"Pakistan violated ceasefire at Sunderbandi sector at 3.50 pm. It was effectively retaliated. At 4 pm two jawans of 126th battalion of BSF were injured. They were evacuated to hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, Constable Prosenjit Biswas succumbed to his injuries," said a BSF spokesman at Jammu frontier.
This is the third ceasefire violation by Pakistan army in the last 24 hours on the LoC.
Two soldiers were injured when Pakistan Army resorted to heavy firing and shelling at the Indian army posts and civilian areas in Kamalkote area of the Uri sector on Wednesday. The injured soldiers were immediately rushed to the hospital for the treatment. A residential house and a tin shed were damaged.
Authorities on Thursday suspended the cross LoC trade from Uri route following tensions on the LoC. No truck crossed from either side of LoC on Thursday as the tensions mounted in the area.
The fresh ceasefire violations come 13 days after Indian and Pakistani army resolved to adhere to the 2003 ceasefire agreement and give peace a chance on the borders.
The decision was taken at a Brigadier-level flag meeting between Indian and Pakistan army at the Poonch-Rawalakote Crossing Point along the LoC in the Poonch sector of Jammu division on November 23.
More than 109 people including 35 army soldiers and 21 BSF personnel were killed while 565 people including 302 civilians and 263 security personnel were injured in the cross-border firing since January 2016 to July 2018.
The year 2018 witnessed the highest number of ceasefire violations and cross-border firing incidents from Pakistan, both at the International Border and the LoC. Around 1435 cases of cross-border firing were reported from January to July 2018 alone. In 2016, the number of ceasefire violations were 449 (228 at LoC, 221 at IB) and in 2017 the number rose up to 971 (860 at LoC and 111 at IB).
