| BJP all set to expel Gagan from PDP, NC, Congress alliance | | Revolt in Ladakh | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 6: All is not well with the state unit of the BJP. In Ladakh, the local BJP leaders are up in arms against the party leadership after it lost its face in the just-held ULB polls. The party MP has also resigned both from the party and the Lok Sabha. They are openly challenging the party leaders based in Jammu and have said "trifurcation of the state alone could end the woes of the Ladakhis".
"We have met Governor SP Malik and put forth our demands, including demand seeking divisional status for the region. The grant of divisional status will ultimately lead to the separation of Ladakh from the state," the Ladakhi BJP leaders on Wednesday said, adding that "they had already met the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister, who had reassured us that their concerns shall be addressed". This is the state of affairs of the party in Ladakh where it had created history of sorts in 2014 by wining the lone Ladakh Lok Sabha seat and in 2015 by dislodging the Congress from the prestigious Autonomous Hill Development Council Leh.
In Jammu, former MLA "controversial" Gagan Bhagat, who represented the RS Pura reserved constituency in the dissolved assembly, has also raised a banner of revolt against the party leadership, thus embarrassing it. He knocked the doors of Supreme Court against the dissolution of the assembly on November 21 and described as "unconstitutional" the decision of Governor SP Malik to dissolve the assembly.
As if all this was not enough to irritate the party leadership, he on Wednesday defended the PDP, the NC and the Congress hobnobbing and criticized the party high command for dismissing as "unholy alliance" the unity between the PDP, the NC and the Congress. These three Kashmir-based parties had on November 21 claimed that they had formed a "Grand Alliance" to form coalition government in the state and the Grand Alliance had the support of 56 MLAs.
Gagan, in fact, questioned the Governor SP Malik's description of the PDP, NC and Congress coming together as an "unholy alliance" and termed it as "a bizarre argument". Not just this, he further said: "When we (BJP) joined an alliance with PDP, it was a holy alliance. In every way, we were poles apart. We had nothing in common. We are in direct confrontation ideologically. We don't have an iota of similarity in the complexion of our support base. Our world view is different. We have completely opposed stands on every fundamental issue related to J&K. But we came together and happily formed a government". He asked: "How is the alliance between PDP, NC and Congress different?" "They have more commonalities than we had with PDP," Gagan Bhagat said.
All this irked the BJP high command. Sources in the party say that "the days of Gagan Bhagat in the party are only numbered and that he could be shown the door anytime from now". "The high command is all set to expel Gagan Bhagat, as he has crossed all the lines," sources in the party on Thursday asserted. "The party is also mulling action against another former party MLA from Chenani Dina Nath Bhagat, who supported the stands of Gagan Bhagat," the sources further disclosed. |
