| Rahul Gandhi's Gotra triggers big controversy among KPs | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 6: Rajiv Gandhi's Gotra as Dattatri Koul and his origin from Kashmiri Pandits community, various KP organisations and leaders have started fighting through social media over the issue.
While some acknowledged the claim made by Rahul Gandhi as was certified by a priest in a temple at Rajasthan that Rahul's Gotra is a Dattatri Koul belonging to Kashmir, others out rightly reject it saying Gandhi family has nothing to do with it.
A Kashmiri Pandit Priest who also publishes the yearly Almanac for the community also acknowledged that Rahul was a KP and belongs to Dattatri, a Koul Gotra which was challenged by other KP bodies and leaders.
The controversy opened a debate on social media with some groups opposing it while others support it.
Those supporting Rahul acknowledge the theory of KP priest that Gotra can transfer from mother side also and grandmother of Gandhi was a KP Brahmin, so Rahul' s claim is justified from every side.
However, taking head on with him some social media groups and KP organisations warned his boycott for propounding this philosophy.
They said Gotra is always from father side and not mother's side.
Those supporting Rahul said Indira Gandhi was practising all KP rituals and same was being practised by her sons Rajiv Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi.
The last rites of both the brothers as well as their mother were performed with Vedic traditions which other Brahmins of India and Kashmir perform. This indicates that for all practical purposes Gandhis were Brahmins and there should be no doubt in it.
The saner elements within KP community say they have no harm if Rahul claims to be a Kashmiri Brahmin and acknowledge the same with all humility.
They said the family maintains its relations with their relatives in Koul families and Indira Gandhi used to visit holy shrine of Tulmulla Kheer Bhawni during her visit to Kashmir and also to the Ashram of great Shaivacharya Swami Laxman Joo at Ishbar Nishat. |
