Jammu, Dec 15 : Recent victory of Congress in three State Assembly elections has revitalized the party in Jammu and Kashmir which is also likely to go for Assembly polls along with Lok Sabha elections by April-May. Assembly results of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh have not only energized the party leaders but also made those Congressmen to rethink over their next move who were mulling to shift their loyalty towards the saffron party.
The Congress leaders who had turned a cold shoulder towards the party high command's decision of considering mandate for the forthcoming State Assembly elections on the basis of show of strength by the aspirants, have suddenly become active. The initial pessimistic reaction of everyone towards the offer has suddenly turned into a tremendous response in the last two days from the mandate aspirants who are approaching the concerned District presidents and the PCC chief seeking suitable date for their respective show of strength.
As already reported, the AICC secretary incharge for J&K, Shakil Ahmad and Sudhir Kumar, after two days discussion with the State unit leadership at Jammu and Srinagar. last month, had announced to decide mandate for the forthcoming Assembly polls on the basis of show of strength by the aspirants, who could apply for suitable dates for the same by December 15.
However, till December 11, not even a single aspirant had come forward seeking date for the show of strength. But as soon as the party registered its win in three State Assembly elections, requests started pouring in seeking dates for the show of strength. Even those who were publically opposing the idea of mandate on the basis of show of strength, are also approaching the PCC for suitable dates to organize show of strength, sources said. |
