Udhampur, Dec 23: Continuing its war on Drug abuse to contain the spread of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, Udha-mpur police today recovered another consignment of 110 kg of contraband substance (poppy straw) from an inter-state narcotic smuggler at Udhampur.
Police spokesman said that based on reliable information, in another narcotic catch, a party of Udhampur police station led by Inspector Sanjeev Singh Chib-SHO Udhampur un-der the supervision of Zahid Saif Wani, DySP HQ laid a naka at Jakheni, Udhampur for checking of vehicles.
"During naka checking, police party stopped one truck bearing registration number PB29M-7601 which was subjected to thorough search and during search of said vehicle, 110 kg poppy straw was recovered from a concealed compartment", said spokesman adding that the narcotic smuggler namely Veer Singh of Ajnala Amritsar was arrested on the spot and poppy straw recovered.
The involved vehicle was also seized.
In this connection, a case under FIR No. 598/18 under section 8/15 NDPS has been registered in Udhampur police station and further investigation of the case taken has been up.
With this consignment, Udhampur Police succeeded in the recovery of 852 kg poppy straw during current month. |
