| Construction of water reservoir abandoned midway, locals protest | | |  MS Nazki

Poonch, Dec 25: After more than one and a half years, the construction work of a water reservoir in lower Naka Majhari village of Balakote block has been abandoned.
The locals while criticising the PHE authorities for their failure to mitigate the problems of people alleged that the department has allotted the tender to a blue eyed contractor who was able to withdraw payment after completing in plinth work of the tank .
Since then he never turned up and lifted the construction material gradually from the site they said
Locals while staging a protest demonstration against the PHE department alleged that stopping the work on water reservoir was to put the locals on further water problems
It is pertinent to mention that a local namely Gulsaid Khan had donated land to PHE department for construction of a water storage tank as the village was facing acute water crisis for the last quite some time as local were fetching water from far off places but the much surprise of locals the construction work of foundation of the tank was completed and abandoned midway simultaneously
While talking to AEE PHE sub division Mendhar Muneer Ahmed told Early Times that he was aware of the situation but do not know the reasons why the construction work of the reservoir was not completed till its completion he added
Meanwhile only water tanker of PHE deptt sub division has been reportedly not put into service as it was not in working order for the last nearly one month as same was parked outside the bus stand Mendhar. Department was least bothered about its repairing or what so ever to press into service and provide water to locals said a social worker MR Kazafi. |
