'Mehbooba left us at mercy of militants, rehabilitated supporters of separatists'

JAMMU, Dec 25: Peoples Democratic Party is gearing up to observe the death anniversary of its late patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the party leadership has claimed that on that day it would show its strength.
Sources told Early Times that PDP President and the former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has been knocking at the doors of the former legislators to stick to the PDP led by her and not to get carried away.
Senior PDP leader, who is unhappy with Mehbooba, according to the sources, is working on a plan-B to make the former Chief Minister realize that her decisions have always proved detrimental for the party. "If he (PDP leader) succeeds in his plan Mehbooba would be left with handful of her family members and few leaders on the death anniversary of the late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed," sources added.
They said that Mehbooba Mufti's younger brother Tasaduq Mufti, who was inducted into the cabinet through backdoor, during Mehbooba's tenure too has disappeared from the scene since the day PDP-BJP government has fallen in the state. "Former Tourism Minister Tasaduq Mufti, who called the shots when her sister was the Chief Minister, seems to have abandoned his party and has gone back to his old life," sources added.
An insider revealed that to have former legislators on her side on the occasion of the death anniversary of her father is a big challenge for Mehbooba Mufti. "The PDP leaders have given their consent to join the programme but they have made it clear that it's not due to Mehbooba. They would attend the event as they have regard and respect for late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mehbooba should not project it as her victory," the insider added.
According to the PDP leaders the party is in the "middle of a crisis" and everyone is aware about it. "PDP has lost its base in south Kashmir as it has emerged as the hot bed of militancy during the past few years. On the other hand PDP leadership failed to live up to the expectations of the masses and remained busy in appeasing Hurriyat and Jamaat activists. More than PDP workers, the supporters of separatists were provided the government jobs during the PDP's tenure. This has led to grass root workers abandoning the party," alleged a low rung PDP leader.
He alleged that when PDP was in power it deserted most of its loyal activists and left them at the mercy of militants. "After losing power PDP wants to show its strength now. Mehbooba should approach the separatists and ask them to remain by her side to show her strength," the PDP leader added.
