Dabur India to pay Rs 80000 compensation for unhygienic honey

Jammu, Dec 27: A Consumer Court of Jammu headed by its President Suneet Gupta District & Sessions Judge, directed Dabur India Ltd to pay compensation of Rs 80,000 for selling adulterated & unhygienic honey which is detrimental to the health of general public.
The complaint was filed by Anshu Mahajan that he had purchased a bottle of 250 mg of Dabur Honey for a consideration of Rs.Rs.122/-on;02-ll-2015,but when he was going to open the sealed bottle of honey purchased by him, he noticed Dead Insects inside the bottle, he was shocked to see the insects inside the bottle as consumption of honey having insects could have been fatal to the life of complainant and his family members.
A Consumer Court of Jammu headed by its President Suneet Gupta after hearing Adv Rajat Gupta for the complainant observed that Since Dabour India Ltd. Is a renowned company and it enjoys a very good reputation in the Indian Market and its branded products used to be bought by the customers while having faith in the reputation of the said company, as such, the said company owes much responsibility to come up to the expectations of the customers, but if such negligence in production of their products is found in that event the lives of the general public shall be in danger which is not acceptable to any society.
Court directed that Dabur India shall pay compensation to the complainant amounting to Rs.20,000/-on account of his mental agony & harassment and OPs shall also pay Rs.l0,000/-as litigation expenses to the complainant.
Besides this, the opposite party who is a big brand name and the public at large is purchasing their products on good faith is liable to pay an amount of Rs.50,000/- as compensation for selling adulterated & unhygienic product which is detrimental to the health of general public. The said amount of compensation shall be deposited with the Jammu Bar Association Welfare Fund.
