Mufti's anniversary 'test' for PDP leaders
12/27/2018 10:20:05 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 27: Even as the second death anniversary of former Chief Minister and founder of Peoples Democratic Party, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed will be held in Kashmir on January 7, the event is likely to be "test of loyalty for some of the leaders who are presently under scanner."
Sources said PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has taken a serious note that some of the PDP leaders had skipped the party meeting recently called in Srinagar to decide about the arrangements to be made, to make the death anniversary of her father a success.
Sources said Mehbooba plans to show the PDP strength on the day of anniversary through a mega event where thousands of party cadres will be asked to attend the function.
Sources said Mehbooba has constituted a core team for organizing the event but has told her leadership that making the event successful would be test for many of the leaders who have been under scanner for their intentions to float a new party.
Sources one of the leaders from the "new rival" group has conveyed it to Mehbooba through his aides that he couldn't attend the recent party meeting due to some personal engagements but wants to lend a helping hand to make the death anniversary a success.
Sources the leader in question including his relatives from Rabiabad who are also in PDP have been trying to convince Mehbooba that they were with the party and that they had no intentions to float any new party.
But Mehbooba is understood to be unwilling to buy their pleas.
Sources said Mehbooba has told her "core team" that the death anniversary of her father would be the test of loyalty for those who have been "infamous for their anti-party activities."
"One such leader happens to be the one who wanted to coup against madam(Mehbooba)when Mufti Sahib passed away. How can we forget that since then the PDP has been in trouble," said a PDP leader on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said Mehbooba had told her party leaders that she doesn't want to trust those who are under scanner to be organizers for the death anniversary of her father.
"But some of them are still trying hard to get assignment for the death anniversary. If they are given a responsibility, they will have chance to regain faith from the party leadership, but if they are not given any such chance, their exit is almost certain," said a PDP leader.
Despite repeated attempts the PDP leadership couldn't be contacted for comments.
