Early Times Report

JAMMU, Dec 27: Former Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti's meeting with Governor Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday raised many eye-brows as a leader like the stature of Mehbooba Mufti has come out openly in support of land mafia. Mehbooba Mufti had urged Governor to stop "selective anti-encroachment drive". Mehbooba also wrote on the twitter that during her meeting with Malik, she discussed the plight of tribals, who are being "forcibly vacated out of their lands". "Requested him (the Governor) to look into the matter and issue instructions to the concerned officers to stop selective anti-encroachment drive," she tweeted. Credible sources said that it was all due to land mafia within the party that Mehbooba Mufti had approached Governor not to retrieve state land encroached by the mafia.
It is known to everybody that some prominent leaders of PDP in Jammu region are notorious for encroaching forest as well as state land. Most of the PDP leaders are working in land business, especially in encroaching state and forest land by abusing their political position.
One prominent PDP leader, who usually financed activities of party in Jammu region, was main accused in grabbing near 100 kanal of forest land in Sunjwan.
In the year 2017, when some officers tried to retrieve that land the said PDP leader had threatened officers and disrupted the demarcation exercise. Interestingly the then PDP-BJP government had provided PSOs to that leader to use his security to threaten officers of Revenue and Forest Departments who dared to evict encroached land. The helpless officers had appealed to the then Deputy Commissioner Jammu to withdraw security provided to the land encroacher PDP leader but due to pressure from higher-ups, no action was taken against him.
