| Pakistan bleeds India again, BSF officer martyred in sniper attack along International Border | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 15: Even as India Army Chief General Bipin Rawat warned Pakistan on Tuesday against its continued support to terror activities emanating from its soil, the neighbouring nation paid no heed and violated ceasefire along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir.
In fact, an officer of the Border Security Force was martyred in a sniper attack from across the border in Samba sector, officials said. Identified the deceased officer as Assistant Commandant Vinay Prasad, who succumbed to his injuries sustained in the cross-border firing.
The Pakistani troops today violated ceasefire across several locations along the IB and Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. The reports of shelling came from Samba, Kathua and Rajouri districts.
"Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violations by resorting to firing and shelling along with heavy caliber weapons in Sunderbani sector from 1000 hours," a Defence PRO said.
The official said that Indian troops retaliated to the Pakistani firing effectively and strongly. The exchange of fire at some of the locations was still on, he added.
Last year, a total of 2,936 ceasefire violation incidents took place - this was the highest number of such violations by Pakistan troops in the last 15 years along the Indo-Pak border. |
