AEE demands huge commissions from contractors

Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 15: The Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of Public Works (Roads and Building) Department Division Bhaderwah of District Doda has allegedly been demanding huge commissions from contractors whose works were allotted through tenders by department.
Contractor Association Bhaderwah registered several complaints against the official to Superintending Engineer PWD (R&B) Circle Doda and Chief Engineer Jammu but surprisingly, the department till date took no action against the official.
Wishing anonymity, a contractor told Early Times that the official presently holding the charge of AEE and Technical Officer to Executive Engineer PWD (R&B) Division Bhaderwah was harassing the contractors by demanding huge commissions on each work .
"Many times the matter was brought in the knowledge of Chief Engineer Jammu and Superintending Engineer PW(R&B) Department but no action has been taken so far. It has been observed that the officer helps only those contractors which belong to a particular political party", Contractors said, and alleged that the officer has also taken part in local body and panchayat elections. "The officer behaviour with the contractors has become intolerable and contractors association has decided to abandon the works allotted to them as the department has failed to take action. We have also registered complaint in Governor's Grievances cell and Vigilance Organisation Jammu" said a contractor.
The contractors threatened that if the officer was not immediately removed from this place of posting the development works at Bhaderwah will remain suspended. The contractors urged Commissioner Secretary PW(R&B) Department to intervene into the matter a nd transfer the corrupt officer to some other place. Repeated calls to Chief Engineer, PW(R&B) Department Jammu, Sudhir Kumar Shah was not responded.
