Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 15: Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC) has allegedly stopped works related to 'Integrated Development of Hazratbal Shrine' since august 2018.
Under National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Drive (PRASAD), Rs 45 cr mega development project for Hazratbal shrine Srinagar was rolled out by then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in year 2017.
The main components of the project were tensile structures for prayers during summers and rainy season, four-laning of the Dargah entrance, illumination of the shrine complex, underground ablution spots, dormitory for devotees of far flung areas, re-designing of the Dargah market, an Islamic Cultural Centre, an exclusive Sewerage Treatment Plant for the shrine complex and multi-level car-parking facility for devotees.
According to documents available with Early Times, Jammu and Kashmir tourism department allotted three works-Construction of multi-level car parking block, construction of ablution spots and construction to Bingri market-to Jammu Kashmir Project Construc-tion Corporation.
The corporation also started work on these projects, however after some months stopped execution of these projects without making reasons public.
Insiders revealed that work on multi-level car parking was stopped in the month of August last year and JKPCC officials despite being approached didn't bother to look into the issue because of which the work was stopped.
"Instead of looking into the main cause, JKPCC transferred this work (multi-level car parking) from one unit to another," they said adding that the work on multi-level car parking wasn't stopped due to paucity of funds.
They also said that work on construction of ablution spots has also been stopped while as work on construction to Bingri market is going at very slow pace.
"Money is available for these works as they being executed under centrally sponsored program but we fail to understand why JKPCC has stopped executing these works suddenly," they added.
Managing Director JKPCC wasn't available for comments.
Important to mention here, Jammu and Kashmir Government has constituted a Fact-Finding Committee to look into affairs of J&K Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC) after its former vice chairman Khalid Jahangir wrote to Governor in detailed and alleged nepotism, corruption and irregularities in its projects.
