Desperate Mehbooba out to prove her late father wrong
'Potential split in party forced me to form the government with BJP'

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 16: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and president of the Peoples Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti is making desperate attempts to prove that she never wanted to join hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party to form the government in the state but she was forced to do it.
She recently stated: "A potential split in the party forced me to form the government with the BJP. We aligned with BJP to resolve the issue of Kashmir."
An analyst while talking to Early Times said that Mehbooba in a way is saying that her late father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed took a wrong decision by joining hands with the BJP and after his death she wanted to break the alliance. "She has repeatedly said that had she not formed the government with the BJP after her father's death her party would have split," he said.
The analyst said that Mehbooba should name the leaders who were out to form the government and dislodge her. "Everyone knows the names of the PDP leaders, who were in touch with the top BJP leadership and had assured them that if Mehbooba backs out they would ensure that someone else takes over the reins of the party and forms the government," he added.
A Kashmir watcher said, "After the death of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Mehbooba took her time and tried to bargain with New Delhi but Centre refused to budge following which Mehbooba surrendered and revived the coalition with the BJP."
He said, "After losing power Mehbooba is trying to play a victim card so that she can woo the voters. It's strange when Mehbooba headed the PDP-BJP regime in the state she had no complaints either with the BJP or its leadership. After being ousted from power she is trying to project saffron party as the biggest enemy of Kashmiris and is making all the possible attempts to don the shoes of Messiah. She is playing a communal card to polarize the environment in the state," he added.
A politician said that if Mehbooba was so uncomfortable with BJP she should have simply asked the Governor to dissolve the Assembly and conduct fresh elections as a Chief Minister all the powers vested with her. "After attaining power she never even hinted at she being uncomfortable with the BJP. Even on the day when the BJP announced its decision to pull out from the PDP led government in J&K, Mehbooba was busy in the secretariat," he said. "Mehbooba should stop blaming others for her failures and should acknowledge that she failed as a leader and the only factor which provided her a chance to rule J&K was that she is the daughter of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who was a seasoned politician and believed in taking everyone along."
