Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Feb 4: An infant was burnt to death yesterday due to medical negligence at G B Pant hospital at Sonwar Srinagar; the family wants exemplary punishment and stern action against the authorities concerned.
Father of the baby girl, Aijaz Ahmad Wani while talking to early times said that, we were admitted in Noora Hospital Srinagar, on Feb 1, my wife namely Asiya Akhter delivered a baby girl at 9:30 am.
"Doctors said that the child is developing some complications, and after enquiring I came to know that there was a short breathe, soon after that doctors at Noora Hospital referred my child to G B Pant hospital for advance treatment at 10:30 am on the same day, said father of the girl.
Till Saturday our child was kept under observation at Intensive Care Unit (ICU), after which we noticed burn marks on the legs and other parts of the body.
They had kept the baby very close to the blower (heater) which resulted in the death," the family alleged.
Aijaz Ahmad said that to our utter shock, o Sunday at 7:30 pm, we were told that, the baby has passed away, however after this tragic episode we gave a written complaint to the in-charge lady who was there at G B Pant hospital, she assured us that action will be taken against the concerned doctors.
G B Pant hospital sent us to our home in a private vehicle, we had demanded for a death certificate but the authorities concerned told us that, it will be sent to your home on Monday, said Aijaz.
The family members have demanded a partial probe and strict action against the doctors and staff responsible.
However, according to reports that the hospital authorities denied the claims and said the baby was suffering a rare disorder.
"The newborn had internal health problems and what appeared like burns were actually disseminated Intravascular Coagulation," said the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital.
Meanwhile Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar on Monday ordered a probe into the death of a newborn at GB Pant Hospital and constituted a five-member committee to investigate the issue and submit the report within 48 hours.
