Hyped Tawi beautification project nowhere in sight, PM announces yet another one

Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 4: The BJP's members are boasting of bringing development to Jammu and Kashmir with the announcement of new projects but the earlier announced projects are nowhere in sight. It raises serious questions whether the announcement actually will translate into action or merely prove another 'Jumla'.
On February 3, the Prime Minister laid foundation stone of Pollution Abatement Project on River Davika and Tawi at an estimated cost of 186.74 Crores involving beautification and development of 25.29 Sq. Kms stretch of River Davika and Tawi in Udhampur district. However, the project is being implemented under the National River Conservation Plan (NRCP), but the earlier announced project the beautification of Tawi River from 4th Tawi Bridge upto Nagrota is nowhere in sight since 2015.
Sources informed Early Times that in the 74th meeting of Board of Directors of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) held on June, 2015 under the leadership of then Dy. Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh who was also holding ministry of local bodies announced that the River Tawi would be developed on pattern of Sabarmati River Front in Gujrat but ironically after lapse of nearly four years, nothing has been done so far.
"In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between JDA and Sabarmati River Front Development Corporation (SRFDC) in Gujarat in June, 2016 and Rs 75 lac were released in favour of SRFDC for preparing Detail project report", said sources. Sources further said that the government announced that the project would be completed in phase manner. In first phase from Tawi 4th bridge to Gujjar nagar including from Bikram Chowk to 4th bridge at Bhagwati Nagar as pilot project but due callousness of erstwhile BJP government, the project is lost in oblivion.
"Now the government announced once again the beautification of rivers but whether it would translate into action or prove merely a rhetoric would be interesting to see", said sources.
