Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 19: Annoyed over alleged marginalization of youth in the upcoming elections by the party high command, a senior Youth Congress leader has decided to switch over to Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) before upcoming assembly elections.
Sources informed Early Times that the leader from district Kathua has been in regular contact with the BJP and RSS functionaries for the last many months.
"The local units of the BJP have been persuading the Youth Congress leader to join the party. The BJP functionaries are of the opinion that the party wanted a young face to contest the next assembly election as the party is unwilling to give chance to an old horse, who faced criticism from within party circles for several reasons", sources said.
They further said that the political parleys between the Senior Youth Congress leader and the BJP leaders have been going on and the issue was also taken up with Union Minister in PMO Dr. Jatinder Singh, who has asked the Youth Congress leader to join the party.
"The Youth Congress leader has been seeking full assurance from the BJP's high command of giving him the mandate in upcoming assembly elections, only then he would join the party", sources said, adding that the senior BJP leaders have refused to give such assurance.
The repeated utterances of Congress party high command of roping in young blood have failed to make any change on the ground where old horses are still ruling the roost and reluctant to give chance to emerging young leaders for upcoming elections, a source privy to the Young Congress leader said.
"The nepotism has been ruining the party. The old horses are only interested for their personal gains and never interested for the welfare of public, so their ultimate goal is to get party ticket and after their own retirement ticket for their children", a source privy to youth Congress leader said, adding that many other youth Congress leader were also willing to leave party due to monopoly of old horses.
