Started 7 years back, 200 bedded maternity hospital still in oblivion

Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 19: While BJP is patting its back for the inauguration of several new projects for Jammu region, the erstwhile BJP-PDP government has virtually failed to complete the crucial 200 bedded maternity hospital in Gandhi Nagar during its more than three years tenure in power.
Sources informed Early Times that in the tenure of National Conference- Congress, the Omar Abdullah government had announced 200 bedded maternity hospitals for both Jammu and Kashmir division worth Rs. 50 Crores to be completed by end of 2015, but due to nonchalant attitude erstwhile PDP-BJP government in state and slow funding from union government, the project missed first deadline.
"After change of government both in State and Centre in 2014, firstly the funding was reduced and then BJP government did not take the development of 200 bedded maternity hospital seriously; especially by MLA concerned constituency, Kavinder Gupta and as a result, the project is still in oblivion", said sources while wishing anonymity.
Sources further said that however, after missing first deadline, the executing agency had fixed another deadline for the completion of the project, but due to objections raised by several former BJP ministers over design and lesser space for the building in Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, the project got further delayed.
"Now the building of 200 bedded maternity hospital is almost completed except some internal work but due to nonchalant attitude of health department and undue delay in sending official communiqué to executing agency for official handover by health department, the people of Jammu are deprived of advanced facilities of the hospital", said an official of health department.
