SKPA organizes lecture on TB, HIV

Udhampur, Apr 2: In order to spread awareness on most communicable TB and contagious HIV diseases, Sher-I-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur organized a Awareness programme for trainees which was attended by nearly 400 trainees and staff members. Director Mohd. Sulaiman Salaria, IPS Additional Director General of Police, Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Dr Kavi Raj District TB officer Udhampur-Reasi districts was the resources person who during the deliberation informed that the main causative agent of TB is Mycobacterium-Tuberculosis Bacteria which attacks every part of the body except nail and hair. However lungs are more susceptible to the infection then other organ parts of body. The TB bacteria dies very slowly so generally the treatment of the disease spreads to minimum of six months where for two months extensive medicine is given to patient and then for four months patient to put to moderate medication and further appraised that even the success rate for multiple drug resistance TB is more than 50%. He further informed that TB and HIV are complimentary diseases as each helps in spread of other very fast. While elaborating on the extent of the disease, he informed that about 25% of the Indian population is infected with the TB disease and daily 40,000 people are found prone the TB bacteria because of frequent intermingling with the population in market, buses, railways, air plane, fairs, malls etc.
