BJP rakes up Omar's past as hotel receptionist, Abdullah says proud of it
4/3/2019 7:03:18 PM
New Delhi
The heated Twitter battle between Omar Abdullah and former cricketer Gautam Gambhir over Kashmir took another turn after BJP national spokesperson Nupur Sharma reminded the National Conference leader that he was once a hotel receptionist.

Jumping to the defence of her party colleague Gautam Gambhir, Nupur Sharma asked Omar Abdullah to stick to the stuff he knows.

"Spare Kashmir the agony. Stick to the stuff you know about - being a hotel receptionist," Nupur Sharma tweeted on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Omar Abdullah and Gautam Gambhir got into an argument over Omar Abdullah's statement that his National Conference party will work towards restoring the posts of "president" and "prime minister" in Jammu and Kashmir.

Gautam Gambhir, who recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, responded saying Omar Abdullah's remarks were akin to "walking on oceans" and "pigs flying".

Omar Abdullah didn’t take this personal attack lightly. Calling Nupur Sharma’s remarks an attack on his humble beginnings, Omar Abdullah accused the BJP of double speak.

"The arrogance of these people. Their leader's humble origins are bragged about. My small start is something I'm supposed to be ashamed of. There is dignity in any honest job and I'm proud of how I started," Omar Abdullah added.

Using the dynastic politics card, Nupur Sharma replied, "Surely Gautam Gambhir is proud of how he started. So is the PM. Still dynastic-roots are not the path to political acumen."

A day before Gautam Gambhir hit out at Omar Abdullah and tweeted, "Omar Abdullah wants a separate PM for J&K & I want to walk on oceans! Omar Abdullah wants a separate PM for J&K & I want pigs to fly!"

"More than a separate PM, Omar Abdullah needs some sleep followed by a strong coffee! If he still doesn't understand then a green Pakistani passport," Gautam Gambhir said in the following tweet as he tagged the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister's Twitter account.

To this, Omar Abdullah had a stinging reply: "Stick to stuff you know about, tweet about the IPL [Indian Premier League]."

Omar Abdullah also brought in cricket in his response to Gautam Gambhir. "Gautam, I never played much cricket because I knew I wasn't very good at it. You don't know very much about J&K, it's [sic] history or the role of [Jammu & Kashmir National Conference] in shaping that history yet you insist on displaying that ignorance for all to see. Stick to stuff you know about, tweet about the IPL," Omar Abdullah tweeted.
