Early Times Report
Anantnag, Apr 3: A complete shutdown was observed in Aishmuqam town of South Kashmir's Anantnag district against the visit of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
The call of shutdown was given by local welfare committee to register a protest against PDP leadership for ignoring Aishmuqam during PDP-BJP regime.
Shops, commercial establishments remained closed and traffic movement on internal roads of town also remained affected due to the shutdown.
After filling nomination papers, Mehbooba Mufti despite knowing that the town was a observing a shutdown, visited the shrine of Zain-ud-din Rishi (RA), housed at the top of a hillock in Aishmuqam to seek the blessings of the saint.
Earlier she had visited the 16th century shrine of Baba Naseeb-ud-din Gazi in the Baba Mohalla area of her hometown Bijbehara in Anantnag district.
The people of Aishmuqam are upset with Peoples Democratic Party leadership for not sanctioning and establishing a degree college. Previously number of protests was organized at Aishmuqam to press for the demand but all in vain as the PDP-BJP Govt went ahead with its plan of establishing a Degree College in nearby village Sligam.
Aishmuqam residents have also approached Jammu and Kashmir High Court against the decision of PDP-BJP Government through which the degree college was sanctioned by Sligam village.
Residents said that Aishmuqam fits in the criteria required for opening a college in the historical town having social and religious importance in Pahalgam constituency.
