Authorities remove foundation stone, college to run from defunct PSU
Degree College Chadoora
4/4/2019 11:04:39 PM
Early Times Report
Budgam, Apr 4: Month after laying the foundation stone of Chadoora Degree College, the authorities have now shifted the site to a state owned defunct public sector undertaking (PSU).
Plating typical Jaspal Bhatti, the authorities removed the foundation stone hours after it was laid. No reasons have been given for shifting the college to another site.
Details available with Early Times reveal that on March 2nd Commissioner / Secretary Social Welfare Department Farooq Ahmad Lone on the directions of Government came to lay the foundation stone of new Govt Degree College Chadoora at a site identified by DC Budgam , SDM Chadoora and a team of revenue officials. The site which is located mere 1 kilometer north of Chadoora town is a 30 kanal state land owned by local panchayat of Wathoora village.
After laying the foundation stone the same was removed in the dead of night by officials. Sources say that site where the foundation stone was laid is an ideal place for college being located out of the crowdy town of Chadoora. Some locals of Chadoora town want college inside the town which is highly congested and being a commercial hub of the Chadoora and Charar e Sharief areas in central Kashmir Budgam. There is no government land available in the town as well which has been mostly encroached upon.
"Deputy Commissioner Budgam along with Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and other district officers also came to the spot during foundation laying ceremony on March 2nd 2019.
"But now we are being told by these officers that College won't be set up at the place where the foundation stone was laid ? Why to start makeshift college 3 kms away from this existing site? There is 30 kanal land and 2 Govt buildings, why can't some makeshift sheds be set up," the locals question.
Ironically a site owned by HPMC which is a defunct fruit juice factory is being hired and will be paid rent by Govt , but the site were foundation stone was laid isn't being utilized . We will resist this move of Govt and launch an agitation " said Mohammad Yousuf a resident of Wathoora Chadoora
"Foundation stone laying ceremony on March 2nd was nothing but a cruel joke with the people of Chadoora constituency especially people of Wathoora , Buchroo , Batpora, Goplapora , Zolwa , Mochwa , Kralpora and other areas . We will fight this injustice tooth and nail " said Raashid Ashraf from Kralpora Chadoora
Pertinently on 22.03.2019 Deputy Commissioner Budgam vide her office letter No: DCB/SQ/19/F-910/2118-24 Dated 22.03.2 019 directed Executive Engineer R&B Division Chadoora to make assessment in respect of renovation and retrofitting of a defunct fruit processing unit owned by J&K Horticulture Produce , Marketing and Processing Corporation Ltd (JKHPMC). This site has been selected for setting up of makeshift Govt Degree College Chadoora. The Executive Engineer R&B Chadoora has been asked to make rent assessment for the site as well. Locals question that why hire a place when there is 30 kanal land available to make even a makeshift college ?
