Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 4: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and President of Peoples Democratic Party Mehbooba Mufti praising Maharaja Hari Singh for laying the foundation of Article 370 has not takers in Jammu region as people know it very well that she sabotaged the move to declare Maharaja's birthday as state holiday.
"Maharaja Hari Singh, set the conditions for Article 370 which was endorsed by Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah," Mehbooba told reporters after filing her nomination papers from south Kashmir's Parliamentary constituency on Wednesday.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said that she is the same Mehbooba Mufti, who as a Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, opposed every move to declare holiday on Maharaja Hari Singh's birthday. "Mehbooba ignored repeated requests from the people of entire Jammu region to declare holiday on Maharaja Hari Singh's birth anniversary," he added.
A politician said that there is no doubt about the fact that Article 370 is dear to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and its foundation was laid by none other than the last Dogra ruler, Maharaja Hari Singh. "And Mehbooba has suddenly remembered it. When the proposal to declare Maharaja Hari Singh's birth anniversary as a holiday was moved separatists opposed the move and threatened stir in the Valley. Mehbooba in order to appease the separatists didn't allow the proposal to materialize," he added.
The politician said, "She (Mehbooba) cannot befool the people of Jammu by praising Maharaja when she needs votes and knows it very well that her party has been pushed to the brink. The separatists and Jamaat-e-Islami cadres who used to vote for her party are cooling their heels in jails and they are no more relevant."
He said that "Mehbooba as Chief Minister followed the diktats of the Pakistan stooges like Geelani and did not show any respect towards the sentiments of Jammu people. The people of Jammu know it very well that she is the sympathizers of separatists and militants and has got nothing to do with them. Had she been sincere she would not have sabotaged the proposal to declare a holiday on Maharaja Hari Singh's birthday."
