Omar Nurses Dream of Prime Ministership
4/4/2019 11:36:16 PM

Omkar Dattatray

What is there in a
name because a rose smells the same if called by any other name and there is no use in changing the nomenclature of Chief Minister and governor. But, in politics love and war everything is fair and this postulate is practiced in the election season by the regional political parties and their supremos. Omar Abdullah hoges the headlines as the vice president of National conference has raised the demand and bogey of wazir-e-Azam (Prime Minster) and sadder-e-Riyasat (President) for Jammu & Kashmir and wants 1953 position to be restored.
He wants to change the nomenclature of the head of the government and the head of the state in J&K. He has said it in an election rally that if National Conference comes to power it will change the nomenclature of CM and governor and replace these with that of the Prime Minister and the president. In fact it is an election gimmick and rhetoric and it is akin to befooling the gullible voters during elections. Omar Abdullah the dynast of sheikh Abdullah clan-the towering leader of J&K now nurses the dream of becoming the PM of the state.
It should be noted here that Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee-the doyen of Jan Sangh had given the supreme sacrifice of his life for the complete integration of JK with India and he advocated Ek Vidhan Ek Pradhan and Ek Nishan. Therefore there is no going back to 1953 position.
Everyone is free to dream but the dreams are not real particularly the dream of becoming Prime Minister of J&K is utopian and there cannot be two PMs in the country. Though J&K occupies a special position and status in the Indian union as per the constitution of India, but to aspire for a Prime Ministership is totally incorrect and impracticable. Much water has flown down the river of Jehlum since 1953 and 1965. When the whole world is marching ahead and performing excellently in various fields, the state of J&K cannot go back as the clock cannot be turned back.
There are no takers for these views of the Machiavellian leader of NC who wants to usurp the chair of the ruler of J&K by hook or by crook and does not hesitate to give statements which smell Separatist odor. NC's autonomy slogan and their election gimmick of reverting to Prime Minister and President have separatist overtones. These statements are given just to appease their political constituency in Kashmir. Therefore their rhetoric of the Prime Minister and president in J&K is an election Jumla (deceit). It is to throw dust in the eyes of innocent voters and to surcharge and emotionalize the poll atmosphere to woo voters who otherwise are interested in developmental narrative and the issues of bread and butter and daily necessities and civic amenities. They do not need redundant and outdated formulas of autonomy, 1953 position and also do not like posts of Prime Minster and President in J&K. People need Sadak, Pani Bijle and Employment and they hardly are concerned with the slogan of autonomy. Even Omar Abdullah knows it well that he cannot restore Prime MInistership and President-ship in J&K. Also they know it well that they cannot implement their slogan of autonomy. Some years back their resolution of autonomy which was passed by J&K legislature during NC rule had been rejected and turned down by the then Atal Behari Vajpayee led NDA government and they know it well that they cannot get autonomy.
Therefore NCs autonomy plank and their stand that AFSPA be revoked and the nomenclature of Wariz-e-Azam and Sader-e-Riyasat are restored to fulfill the aspirations of Kashmiris. It is very sad and disturbing that NC and PDP are in competition so far as pleasing the separatist lobby is concerned. Both Kashmir centric parties are giving controversial and uncalled for statements to lure and woo voters and such statements smell separatist tendencies. Now NCs vice president and CM candidate Omar Abdullah is nursing dream of becoming PM of J&K but he cannot be successful in it. This emotional and non issue is raised by him in order to deflete the attention of gullible voters from pressing demands.
Thus, these are unwarranted and utopian demands and statements and will keep the state in backwardness and it seems that NC PDP and even congress does not have programs and schemes for J&K electors and they only resort to blackmailing tactics to enlist the support of the voters. But in their heart of hearts, these utopian slogans and themes are unrealistic and cannot take place in today's India. Omar Abdullah and PDP supremo only rakes emotional and non issues and are not concerned with the safety, security, dignity and well being of the people and thus they raise the passions of the electors just before the elections. Back to untenable assertion of changing the nomenclature of CM and governor, one is forced to contend that these illusory demands and stands cannot lure voters anymore because the present voter has become aware and conscious of his right and duty of casting vote and he can neither be deceived nor coerced and blackmailed. So it is better for Omar Abdullah to concentrate his attention on developmental agenda and not fitter his energy on the outdated and redundant prepositions which in the final analysis will weaken his resolve to fight for the commoners. But these statements and demands are election eve promises which vanish in the dust and din of electioneering. And they are given just to appease voters and intoxicate them.
But these illusory and unrealistic demands and themes have no place in our liberal and secular democracy. Therefore these statements and demands should not be given instead the political leaders should better concentrate on the mundane matters of bread and butter and also focus on bijli, pani, sadak, health education et al. in any case clock cannot be turned back and we cannot embrace the 1953 or 1965 position. J&K has acceded to Indian union and got special status as a bargain. But the special provision of article 370 and article 35-A are temporary and should be done away with for full integration of J&K with Indian Union. Omar wants unbridled powers for himself and in fact likes to become the sultan of J&K without any control from centre government and thus his autonomy plank implies absolute power for the state and its rulers without any accountability. But such autonomy is detrimental to the interests of the masses. All powers and no accountability is a lopsided proposition and are undesirable and therefore his theory of autonomy is untenable.
