Security arrangements finalised for Jammu, Baramulla Lok Sabha elections

Elaborate security arrangements have been made for Jammu and Baramulla Lok Sabha elections where polling will be held on 11 April in the first phase. The two sprawling constituencies run along the International Border with Pakistan and the Line of Control (LoC) with the Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK).
More than 33 lakh voters will decide the fate of 33 candidates in the fray in the two constituencies. Among the electorate, 52 are transgenders.
According to the chief electoral officer, the two constituencies have 33,65,037 registered electors including 17,16,933 males, 16,00,897 females, 47155 service voters. There are 24 candidates in the fray in the Jammu Lok Sabha constituency, whereas in Baramulla 9 candidates are contesting for the seat. As many as 4489 polling stations have been set up in these two constituencies.
The Jammu constituency sprawling over the districts of Jammu, Samba, Rajouri and Poonch with 20 Assembly segments have 20,47,299 electors, including 10,40,876 male and 9,64,838 females. For smooth conduct of the elections, the authorities have set up 2740 polling stations across the constituency.

BJP’s Jugal Kishore is the sitting MP of the Jammu seat.

The Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency in North Kashmir is spread over 15 Assembly constituencies and touches the LoC at several places. It covers Kupwara, Baramulla and Bandipura districts of Kashmir. The Baramulla seat has 13,17,738 electors of which 6,76,057 are male and 6,36,059 females.

As many as 1,749 polling stations have been established in the constituency. Muzaffar Hussain Baig of the PDP had won the seat in 2014.
