Violating guidelines, 2 HS Schools sanctioned within 2 kilometers
4/10/2019 10:52:32 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 10: The School education department has sanctioned two Higher Secondary Schools within a distance of less than two kilometres, in total violation of its own policy guidelines.
As per the policy of state, a primary school is to be within a distance of 1 kilometres from the desirable children, while a middle school within 3 kilometres, High School 5 kilometres and Higher Secondary within 10 kilometer distance.
Falling in zone Dansal, the Government High School Gundla was upgraded to Higher Secondary in June 2018 while the High School Marh was also upgraded to Higher Secondary in March 2019.
Both the schools are within a distance of less than 2 kilometres in contrast to the requirement of 10 kilometres, while HS Gundla has only 70-80 students while HS March had not more than 200 enrolment. There was no requirement of the Higher Secondary within a distance of 2 kilometres but adjoining to these areas falls Mathwar block, which has large population and no Higher Secondary within few kilometres of distance, an official said.
The official further said that it would be merely wastage of public money as well as workforce while the deserving areas have been deprived of the facility due to wrong recommendations made by an official of education department.
"Priority of the government must be to cover the untouched areas, which actually deserve the schools but officials usually misled the administration", an official said, adding that Governor administration, must initiate an enquiry over the issue.
Chief Education Officer Satpal Sharma said that he had recently assumed office and the recommendations were made by his predecessors.
