Police issue alert on Fidayeen attack, say car ladden with IED may be used
4/11/2019 8:20:32 PM

New Delhi

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have issued an alert saying a white-colour Scorpio car ladden with IED is likely to carry out a Fidayeen (suicide) attack in the next two-three days.

The notice was issued on Wednesday (April 10) while voting will take place for the first phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections today (Thursday).

The notice, which is addressed to various senior police and security officers, says the vehicle is bearing a registration number JK03E-3431 and is from the state's Kulgam district.

The February 14 Pulwama terror attack, where 40 CRPF jawans were killed, was also a Fidayeen attack where a car full of IED rammed into a CRPF bus.

The notice says the information of a possible Fidayeen attack is based on reliable inputs, but the location where the attack is likely to take place is not known.

"Intelligence input further reveals that two guides are detailed for execution of the task," the notice reads.

Authorities have asked ground units to ensure adequate safety measures are taken and nakas (checkpoints) are set up at strategic locations.

"Units to have surprise nakas even away from cities/towns and on routes to interior villages...All precautions to be taken and physical barriers to be set up at strategic points to avoid any untoward incident," the notice reads.
