JRL becomes irrelevant in Kashmir after Malik's arrest
Mirwaiz changes tone, no one taking Geelani seriously
6/9/2019 11:17:53 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 9: Separatists in Kashmir are reportedly under pressure from their bosses sitting across the Line of Control (LoC) to do something to disrupt the normal life, which has been relatively calm since the fall of the elected government in the state.
Sources told Early Times that bosses of the separatists are angry with the Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz Umar Farooq for failing to keep their flock together after the arrest of the so-called JKLF chief Yasin Malik, who is cooling his heels at Tihar Jail in New Delhi. "The so-called Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising of Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik, has become irrelevant after Malik's arrest in March this year. Geelani and Mirwaiz have not even met once during the past three months," the sources added.
They said that National Investigating Agency (NIA) subjecting Mirwaiz to thorough questioning at its headquarters in New Delhi has made him change his tone. "Since the day Mirwaiz has returned from the national capital he has been focusing on religious activities and has refrained from delivering ant-national sermons. Soon after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party to a thumping victory in the recently held Parliamentary elections, Mirwaiz tried to strike a chord with him by calling him (PM Modi) the leader of the masses," said an analyst.
On the other hand Hurriyat hawk, Geelani continues to be rigid, he has not changed but no one is taking him seriously. "People know it very well that his entire family, including his two sons, have been questioned by the NIA for their alleged involvement in terror funding case. This has exposed the separatists as people have realised that Geelani and others are Pak stooges, who dance to the tunes of their bosses sitting across the LoC just for the sake of monetary considerations," the analyst added.
An insider revealed that handlers of separatists are perturbed due to none of their plans being executed. "In absence of Jamaat-e-Islami and JKLF these people are looking towards Geelani and Mirwaiz to do something to keep the pot boiling. The fear of being jailed in the terror funding case and orchestrating street protests has pushed both the separatists on back foot as they know it very well that if they make any attempt to instigate the people they would end up in big trouble," the insider added.
The Government of India tightening its noose around the separatist leadership has led to Pakistan losing its stooges in the Valley and the people, who used to advocate Pakistan's cause in Kashmir are also trying to maintain distance from their bosses.
