11 students killed in accident on Mughal Road, condemnations pour in

SRINAGAR, June 27: Eleven students including nine girls were killed while as seven others were injured in a road accident at Pir Ki Gali on the Mughal Road today.
Reports said that a vehicle on way to Shopian skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge in Lal Ghulam area near Pir Ki Gali, resulting in the death of 11 students including nine girls and injuries to eight people.
The vehicle was carrying over at least 20 students of a private computer centre at Surankote, said an official, adding that the rescue operation was launched immediately after the accident. He said the injured persons were rushed to district hospital Shopian, where from eight critically injured persons were shifted to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment.
The deceased were identified as Nayeema daughter of Riyaz Ahmad, Tabassum daughter of Mohammad Rafiq residents of Faisalabad, Shereen Fatima daughter of Zaman Ahmad a resident of Lathoon, Suhail Ahmad son of Zubair Ahmad a resident of Gunthal, Ifshana Kownsar a resident of Darbah, Humaira Qazmi, Rehmat Bee both residents of Dundak, Jameel Ahmad a resident of Mandil, Najma a resident of Lasana, Shabnam daughter of Hidayat Ahmad and Rabia daughter of Mukhtar Ahmad both residents of Gunthal.
The injured were identified as Aliya daughter of Mohammad Iqbal a resident of Surankote, Tabasum daughter of Bashir Ahmad, Sonya daughter of Mohammad Rafiq a resident of Faisalabad Jammu, Jameel Ahmad son of Abdul Rehman a resident of Surankote, Mehrun Nisa and Afshana Javid.
The volunteers associated with the Rehmat Alameen society, an NGO that works for destitute and needy, have reached the spot to transport the injured and deceased to hospital in Shopian. The NGO has pressed its ambulance services on the mission.
Reports said that 15 students from a computer institute from Surankote area of Poonch traveling in a tempo were heading towards Dhobijan for a picnic when the mishap took place.

Governor Satya Pal Malik has expressed grief over the loss of lives in a road accident in the Shopian district. In a condolence message, Governor has conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls.
Besides, Governor has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased. The Governor directed the administration to provide best medical treatment to the injured in the accident and wished speedy recovery to them.
National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah and vice president Omar Abdullah today expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road accident near Pir Ki Gali resulting in 11 deaths. The duo in their message prayed for peace to the departed souls and strength to the grief-stricken families to bear the inconsolable loss. The duo has also urged the divisional administration of Jammu to give best of medical treatment to the injured.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and President Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti expressed grief over the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in South Kashmir's Shopian district. Mehbooba conveyed her sympathy to the families of the deceased passengers. She also expressed serious concern over the recurring road accidents in the mountainous regions of the state and demanded that the government must review the causes of the recurring fatal accidents and take measures to save the precious lives on priority.
Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President G A Mir also has expressed profound grief over the loss of eleven precious lives and conveyed deepest condolences to bereaved families. In a statement Mir expressed profound grief over the loss of eleven precious lives including nine girls, as reported, in a tragic accident near Peer Ki Gali, describing it as highly unfortunate and painful.
CPI (M) leader and former legislator Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami expressed deep shock and grief over the fatal road accident in Peer Ki Gali area on the historic Mughal road in south Kashmir's Shopian district in which reportedly eleven persons died and many others were injured.
