People allege negligence of police, F&ES in fire incident, hold protest | | | Early Times Report SUNDERBANI, June 28: Prominent people of village Lam held a protest against Chowki Officer, Lam and Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES) Department, Nowshera for not taking timely action to control fire in a flour mill in Lam. They urged Deputy Commissioner Rajouri to take action against and immediate transfer of careless employees of both the departments. The protesters including Jagjeet Singh, social worker Harbaksh Singh, Mohinder Singh, Balwant Singh, Ajeet Singh, Nanak Chand, Captain Yog Raj, Mohd Yousif, Zakir Hussain, Khadam Hussain, Mukhtar Ahmed, Fajlula Chowdary and others said that a devastating fire engulfed a flour mill in Lam on Thursday night. They said that smoke was seen coming out of a window of the flour mill building after which locals raised an alarm vand immediately informed the Police Chowki Lam and Fire Station officer Nowshera but no action was taken by both the department due to which the owner of the mill Paul Singh incurred losses worth more than Rs 30 lakh. They said that about 5200 kgs of maize, 5500 kgs of wheat and 1200 kgs of floor besides some instruments in the floor mill got completely destroyed in the fire. Paul Singh said that Chowki Officer came to the spot and immediately left without providing any substantial help to us. Singh said that more losses of more than Rs 30 lakhs are solely due to the carelessness of these departments as the fire reached the spot only on Friday morning. |
