Early Times Report
RAJOURI, June 28: A Sarpanch of Panchayat Lower Siot of District Rajouri has allegedly been harassing a female Anganwari worker, who has been running centre in Ward No. 1 of the panchayat by threatening her to shift the centre.
While narrating her ordeal to Early Times, the Anagwari worker Surita Chadha said that the Sarpanch of Panchayat Lower Siot Dr Ram Chander Sharma has been continuously harassing her on one pretext or the other.
"I have been running Anagawari centre at my house which is in Ward No. 1 of the Panchayat Lower Siot for the last many years. The locals whose children come in the centre are very happy with the functioning of the centre but the Saparnch is harassing me without any reason and threatens mw to shift the centre all the time," said Surita Chadha further adding that she is being victimised and the local Panch Surjit Kumar is also helping the Saparnch.
Astonishingly, the Sarpanch issued an order of shifting Anganwari centre to a school building out of his authority as the decision regarding shifting any centre can be taken only by the local administration and the Saparch can only give representation.
A copy of order (No. LSP-20/33-40 dated 26-06-19) issued by Sarpanch which is in postseason Early Times reads that centre has been shifted to Govt Boys High Secondary School Siot. The order has been copied to CDPO Sunderbani, Project Director Jammu, DDC Rajouri, ADC Sunderbani, Tehsildar Siot, Project Officer Rajouri, Headmaster Govt Boys High Secondary School Siot and Incharge Angarwari centre. A senior officer in the District Administration informed the Early Times that a Sarpanch can't issue order of shifting centre which is against the rules.
The Anagwari worker alleged that Sarpanch Lower Siot has not been checking attendance register of the centre and asked her to come other time. "He asks me to come alone in the evening for checking of attendance register. His intentions are not clear," she alleged adding that if harassment by the Sarpanch continuous, she would commit suicide and the entire blame will be on him. She appealed to the Governor SP Malik to take action against such people who has been misusing their power.
