Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, June 28: A Pakistan based militant who was associated with Jaish-e-Muhammad was killed in a gunfight in the wee hours of Friday morning at Central Kashmir's Budgam district.
Police identified the slain as Zarar from Pakistan, adding that incriminating material recovered from the site of encounter suggested that the slain was affiliated with Jaish and was a foreigner namely Zarar.
The gunfight raged in Kralpora-Checkpora area of Central Kashmir's Budgam district after a Cordon and Search Operation was jointly launched by 50 Rashtriya Riffles, SOG and CRPF this morning following the specific inputs about the presence of militants.
During the search operation, the hiding militants fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter, police said, adding that in the ensuing encounter, one militant was killed and the body was retrieved from the site of encounter. Moreover, police said all these materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other cases.
"The slain as per police records was wanted by law for his complicity in cases including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities." Police said that Zarar was part of groups involved in planning and executing attacks in the area and many other civilian atrocities. "Several cases were registered against him," police said.
Police said with the efforts of police and security forces, it was a clean operation and no collateral damage took place during the exchange of fire. Meanwhile, police urged people not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any, police added.
During the gunfight, intense clashes erupted between youth and forces near the gunfight site. Witnesses said that a youth has also sustained bullet injury in his abdomen during the clashes at the encounter site. "He was referred to SMHS hospital where his condition was stated as critical," they informed.
Besides, the mobile internet services were snapped in Central Kashmir's Budgam district this morning. Locals said that the mobile internet services were snapped in the district following the gunfight at Kralpora area. However, the services were later restored in the evening.
