Jammu, July 24: Up in arms against the erratic supply of drinking water, the residents, mostly women, of Channi Rama today came out on the streets and held strong protests.
Irked residents demonstrated against the state government and PHE authorities to highlight their problem.
Raising slogans against the PHE department, a group of women residents said that they are fed up with the erratic water supply in their area. We have made several complaints with the department officials but no one paid any heed, alleged protesting women adding that the residents have no other option but to get water supply through paid water tankers after every fifteen days.
Protestors said that they are facing severe drinking water crisis for quite a long period but the authorities concerned are showing no concern towards the grave problem.
Due to shortage of water, the residents are forced to pay huge sums to private water tankers, said one of the protesters, Gouri Manhas adding that the problem of irregular water supply to our locality gets further aggravated during peak summer and monsoon. We demand that the PHE department take steps to streamline distribution of water in our area. |
